Printers Row Chicago IL Real Estate

Printers Row Chicago IL Real Estate

Printer’s Row was the heart of the printing and publishing industries in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Many of the old buildings remain and are still known by their original names with original signage. The Transportation Building at 600 S. Dearborn and the Donohue Building at 711 S. Dearborn are examples of historic buildings being converted into loft-style apartments while retaining the character of the neighborhood.

Printer’s Row literary history can be seen in its Annual Book Fair. The fair was started in 1984 and is held each June drawing bookseller and readers from all over the city and beyond.

Printer’s Row is a relatively newer neighborhood even though it boasts a rich past. Its reputation for being eclectic, artsy and tightly-knit is well deserved. It is a self-contained community, with a flower shop, a day spa, dry cleaners, restaurants, a coffee shop, a tavern, a wine shop, several bookshops, convenience stores, Realtors and even the nearby Hilton Chicago.

Dearborn Station has been the neighborhood’s landmark since it’s opening in 1885 as the primary departure point for trains traveling west. Dearborn Station was also once the point of arrival for thousands of immigrants to the city.
