Ukrainian Village is a safe middle-class neighborhood, populated by older citizens of Eastern European ethnicity. It is insulated somewhat from surrounding socioeconomic change by large industrial areas on its south and west borders, and by the staying power of the Orthodox churches. Although the gentrification of West Town is rapidly changing the demographic, Ukrainian Village continues to be home to approximately 10,000 ethnic Ukrainians.
Neighborhood landmarks include the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, the Ukrainian National Museum, and the Ukrainian Cultural Center, Ss. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Church, St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, Roberto Clemente High School, St Mary's Hospital, and Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Cathedral.
East Ukrainian Village is a neighborhood in which century-old housing is constantly being redeveloped and renovated, so much so that many have taken to referring to it as simply "East Village". The community is comprised of lovely tree-lined streets, apartments, rejuvenated houses and flats.
